Ability360, MaxInMotion™ Offer Free Youth Adaptive Sports Clinics

By Nonprofit Marketing ArizonaMay 28, 2018

Ability360 Sports & Fitness Center, in conjunction with MaxInMotion™, is offering six free monthly half-day clinics teaching power soccer, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair tennis, hockey and baseball beginning July 21.

All equipment is provided. The free clinics introduce youth from four to 18-years old to sport basics while fostering teamwork, healthy competition and play.

“Youth with disabilities have limited access to opportunities to play and participate in sports. Ability360 and MaxInMotion™ believe this is an important part of growing up,” said Gus LaZear, VP and General Manager of the Ability360 Sports & Fitness Center. “Through our partnership with MaxInMotion™, Ability360 is able to provide the opportunity for youth to play a team sport, regardless of ability.”

The clinics, open to youth with disabilities 18-years and younger, teach skills in the individual sports and provide an opportunity to try out specialty wheelchairs and equipment used in competition. Lunch will be provided at each of the clinics.

“MaxInMotion™ is honored to partner for the fourth year with Ability360 on this dynamic program,” said Jonah Shacknai, MaxInMotion Foundation President. “The continued growth of MaxInMotion at Ability360 speaks to the need for youth adaptive sports.”
Started in 2014, the program continues to expand its sports offering and this year introduces three new adaptive sports to the line-up; wheelchair hockey, wheelchair baseball and wheelchair tennis.
“Youth with disabilities are often treated as fragile,” said Sara Bright, Ability360 Therapeutic Recreation Specialist. “This program creates a bridge to allow participants to play in ways that they often do not get to

experience. We know that competition and play build a foundation for community integration.”
