Save The Family Reaching Out To The Community For Sponsors For Holiday Gift And Food Programs

Save the Family is looking to engage more community members to help families working toward self-sufficiency and overcome homelessness create positive holiday memories and traditions for their children as sponsors of holiday gift and food programs.

“The holiday season can be very stressful, especially for parents enrolled in one our programs who want the holidays to be special for their kids,” said Save the Family CEO Jacki Taylor. “Many client families would not be able to afford the holidays without the generous support of individuals in our community. We hope this year to make that possible for even more children and families.”

For Thanksgiving, program sponsors purchase approved non-perishable food items and $30 grocery gift cards to buy perishable food items appropriate for the size and traditions of their families, Taylor said, adding that “historically, sponsors have spent about $60 per family for these items.”

All items should be packed in a laundry basket or sturdy box and delivered to Save the Family, 125 E. University Dr. in Mesa, for distribution by volunteers to participating families on Monday, Nov. 20. Delivery of food boxes or baskets to Save the Family should be prearranged with the Holiday Sponsorship Department ((480) 898-0228, Ext. 217 or emailholidays@savethefamily.org).

For the Christmas-time holiday program, sponsors purchase gifts for each family member based on their wish list. Average spending limit per family is between $80 and $100 per family member. Sponsors also are asked to buy a $50 grocery card for families to purchase holiday dinners. All gifts must be wrapped and labeled with a recipient name and client family number that is provided at the time of registration.

Family sizes can vary and multiple families can be sponsored.

All items should be packed in storage bins or boxes and delivered to Save the Family for distribution by volunteers on Monday, Dec. 18 and Tuesday. Dec. 19. Arrangements to deliver storage bins and boxes to Save the Family should be made ahead of time through the Holiday Sponsorship Department.
